Mission rocking chair with coil spring seat

This is a quartersawn oak custom rocking chair with an adjustable back and hand-tied coil spring seat. There is a small brass leaf inlay visible on the lower front rail which is illustrated and explained further on the inlay pages

Without the outer fabric, which will vary in price, this rocker goes for between $2200-$3000.

Other images show:

The arm and corbel detail which show the through mortise and tenon joinery, view #1 and view #2, also show the beautiful medullary rays of quartersawn oak. If you have an oak floor, you can compare that "plainsawn" oak to this image.

Undercarriage and corner blocks of mission rocking chair. As mentioned elsewhere, this type of construction is critical in a chair to ensuring long life.

Black cherry is a very strong and very stable hardwood that has become extremely popular over the last several years. Finished naturally, it darkens with age.

This particular seat on this rocking chair is a "sag" seat without springs that is very comfortable.

Notice the long graceful corbels alongside the legs that I prefer to the traditional stubby style.

A flash photo begins to reveal the deep beauty of carefully chosen cherry wood. Notice the contrasting color and deep swirls in the front rail of this rocker.

In black cherry, this rocker is between $1900-$2300.

This is a carved black walnut leaf which has become somewhat of a trademark with my furniture. You can choose to forgo these embellishments if you wish. However, they are silky smooth and soft to the touch. Positioned just under where the hand naturally falls they are often caressed by the person occupying these chairs and take on a worn patina from this conscious and unconscious hand-rubbing.

Also apparent here is the through-tenon upright coming up into the chair rail beside the leaf. Besides being beautiful, this joint is the strongest possible.

Cherry mission double rocking chair designed to hold two people.

Cherry mission style double rocking chair

This extra-wide black cherry rocking chair was designed for a couple to sit in, or for an adult to read to two children. The overall design and look is my own and would perhaps fall into a neuvo-Mission look.

This seat features hand-tied coil springs.

I decided upon the wide front rail while actually building this piece because of the figure in this piece of wood. I didn't have the heart to cut this beautiful board into small sections.
