Wooden radiator covers
Detail of wooden radiator cover
It just occurred to me that since moving to Sacramento from New Jersey, that "it will be a cold day in ... well, in Sacramento" before I ever make one of these again! But I love them nonetheless and they go toward showing the diversity of work I am capable of. Additionally, I have some nice images showing more on how to inlay.
Detail showing nickel silver inlays, quartersawn medullary rays, and splindles from another radiator cover.
These radiator covers are between $1100 to $1400.
Setting the inlay
Here the inlay has been glued and then screwed down into its recess. At this point, I begin the laborious process of leveling the screwtops and inlay down to the level of the board. I have more on inlaying in another are of the website which can be found here.
Leveling the inlay
At the top of the image you can see the brass shavings and dust from filing the inlay flat.
Three leaf cluster
This three leaf motif has become quite popular. There are additional smaller leaves down farther on the board.
