This page incorporates elements that one might not usually think of when considering custom furniture. However, most of us are familiar, for instance, with tiles inlaid in tabletops. These are ceramic tiles with glazes.
The main purpose of this discussion is to broaden your design ideas. Remember that virtually anything is possible. Tiles are relatively simple. You might even decide to decorate your own tiles or have each of your children decorate one! That would be quite an heirloom.
The other point here is to begin to show you the breadth of my work and abilities. I do this not out of pride, but to help you to have confidence in my work and what I am capable of crafting for you.
I have been working with ceramics since I was a child. I am able to "throw" on a wheel, sculpt, fire, and make my own glazes. I have an electric ceramic kiln here on site and can also gas fire to achieve beautiful non-oxidizing (reduction) reds. Please feel free to ask and we can discuss incorporating this interesting medium into your order.
Coiled lizard pot
This is a coil pot. Made by laying long coils of clay on top of one another. It is about one foot in diameter and used to hold a beautiful Jade plant of mine, which unfortunately died some years ago. That is why it has some dirt on it.
I like to put an Anole lizard or some sort of animal on the side of the pot for interest. It seems to add an element of movement. This pot could easily be stained or glazed, yet the sculpture also stands by itself.
Ceramic elephant sculpture from coils
This is a ceramic sculptured elephant. I consider the use of coils in this instance somewhat unusual. However, they lend themselves to larger, light, freeforms such as this.
This piece is approximately 1 1/2 feet high.
